Football clubs in Porto

The city – located along the Douro River – is the home base of football clubs FC Porto and Boavista. Both clubs play at the top tier of Portuguese football, the Primeira Liga. Boavista has been a mid-table club for several years, while FC Porto belongs to Os Três Grandes (the Big Three) of Portugal, together with Benfica and Sporting CP. As in most places in Portugal, football is quite important in Porto.
