Cristiano Ronaldo signs a 2.5 years contract at Al-Nassr

According to the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, the decision is final: Cristiano Ronaldo (37) will leave for Saudi Arabia until 2030. He’ll play for Al-Nassr the first two and a half years and then he’ll be an ambassador of the Saudi Football Association. The aim is to try to attract the 2030 World Cup to the country. Rumour has it that – as a football player – Ronaldo will earn around 200 million euros.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Al-Nassr

The former top football player of Manchester United and Real Madrid will definitively leave for Al-Nassr. The rumour mill has been in overdrive for months now, but the deal is final, according to Marca. The transfer took a while, as they first had to find a legal way of transferring the clubless CR7 to Saudi Arabia. This finally succeeded after removing three Al-Nassr football players from the payroll; which player they are is not yet know. It was the only way for the club to still adhere to the fair play rules.

Al-Nassr is one of the most successful clubs in the Saudi Premier League. Ronaldo’s teammates will be Vincent Aboubakar, Talisca, Luis Gustavo and David Ospina. Ronaldo was offered to European clubs several times, but they seemed to be uninterested in buying the striker.

A great salary for Cristiano Ronaldo: 200 million euros

What the celebrity’s exact salary will contain is still unknown. International newspapers reported that his salary would be around 200 million euros a year. This would mean that Ronaldo would become the world's best paid sportsman ever. According to other sources, these 200 million euros will be divided over 2.5 years, excluding bonuses. Which of the two it will be, doesn’t matter because Ronaldo will make more money than he did at Manchester United. At both Manchester United and Juventus he earned around 30 million euros a year.

End to Ronaldo telenovela

Cristiano Ronaldo had quite a tumultuous year. The striker joined his beloved club Manchester United but this didn’t work out well. Coach Erik ten Hag didn’t see much potential in the striker and refused to put him in the starting line-up several times which left Ronaldo quite unhappy. Arguments arose; Ronaldo walked away several times, didn’t show up and talked about his dissatisfaction in the media. On top of all this, a tragedy happened in Ronaldo’s personal life: his new-born child died. His contract at Manchester was dissolved; Ronaldo wasn’t part of a club anymore. Ronaldo also misbehaved at the World Cup in Qatar. He expressed his dissatisfaction to his Portuguese coach who – just like Ten Hag – benched him. Now that the transfer to Saudi Arabia is final, the Ronaldo telenovela has finally come to an end.
