[Part 2]

Day 2: London – Birmingham

It was time to head to our next destination, after eating a delicious breakfast: Birmingham! We boarded the local train at 10.47am local time, which brought us directly to Birmingham where we arrived at 12.07pm. We checked in at our hotel and went straight to our next match… Wolverhampton Wanderers – Nottingham Forest.

Wolverhampton Wanderers - Nottingham Forest

The match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Forest kicked off at 3pm. At the time of our visit, Wolverhampton and Forest ranked eighteenth and nineteenth in the Premier League respectively, with six to five points. Not the results we expect from Wolverhampton when looking at their performances in recent years. This means the Wolves desperately need to win this match.

And we were lucky. After losing three consecutive matches, Wolverhampton managed to win this time. Thanks to a converted penalty by Rúben Neves in the 56th minute, as well as a stopped penalty by José Sá, the match between the Wolves and Nottingham Forest ended in 1-0.

We ended the day with a pint in the pub while enjoying Tottenham Hotspur - Everton. By the way, in terms of food, Birmingham has something for everyone: you can find all kinds of cuisines in the city centre. We decided to go for the Spanish cuisine before arriving at our hotel. The second day was successful!

Day 3: Birmingham (Aston Villa - Chelsea)

We left for Villa Park right after breakfast: time to visit Aston Villa - Chelsea. We drank a beer at the Aston Tavern, which is only ten minutes away from the stadium. This place, where Aston Villa fans gather for a £5 contribution to have a beer before the match, looked more like a museum. A place where time has been standing still for 70 years. The atmosphere was great, and there was even a large outdoor garden including a long bar with a wide choice of different draught beers.

Villa Park

Aston Villa’s stadium is quite impressive: unlike most stadiums, the exterior is built entirely of bricks. A stadium with a capacity of 42,785 is certainly not bad for a club like Aston Villa. The stadium was completely sold out.

Aston Villa took off in good spirits. The fans were very enthusiastic, screaming and shouting at the game. Thanks to some fine goalkeeping and bad luck for Aston Villa, Chelsea managed to keep Aston Villa from scoring. The club from London only needed one chance to score a goal, and they succeeded, making it 0-1.

While Steven Gerrard's team seemed to dominate the first half, Aston Villa broke down in the second half and Chelsea controlled the rest of the match. Despite numerous chances, the match ended 0-2. We ended our Sunday watching Liverpool - Manchester and later the Ajax - Excelsior match. Tired but satisfied, we had had our share of football for the weekend. A successful weekend in which we visited three completely different clubs with completely different stadiums and fans.
