The Eredivisie is the highest and most important football league in the Netherlands. The competition is known for its attractive matches with many goals and for being an important breeding ground for young talents. The competition was founded in 1956. The league consists of 18 football clubs. Each teams plays 34 matches during the season, from August to May.
The three most successful clubs from the Eredivisie, also referred to as The Big Three, are AFC Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.
The most popular and dominant club from the Netherlands is Ajax. Ajax were also the first to ever win the Eredivisie and have won most national titles (34). PSV Eindhoven follow with 23 titles, Feyenoord with 15. They are known as the ‘Big Three’ of Dutch football, having won all except for six national titles.
