Son Moix isn’t the first stadium in which RCD Mallorca settled. Their first stadium opened in 1916 and was called ‘Buenos Aires’. The club moved to the Estadio Lluís Sitjar in 1945 until 1999. A new stadium was built so the Summer Universiade could take place in Mallorca in 1999. Different kinds of sports were exerted in the stadium and this is still the case. The stadium is still put to use for athletic games. The Son Moix has known several different names. It even got renamed to ‘Visit Mallorca Estadi’ during the Corona pandemic to draw more tourists to the stadium. The capacity of the stadium is 23,142, which makes it the biggest stadium of the Balearic Islands. The board of RCD Mallorca is currently thinking about building a new stadium for RCD Mallorca, but there aren’t any concrete plans yet. 

Visit the Son Moix

The stadium is only three kilometres away from the city’s centre, so it doesn’t take very long to travel from Palma de Mallorca’s city centre to Son Moix. You could also walk to the stadium, since the distance between the city’s centre and the stadium isn’t that great. It takes around 45 minutes to walk from Palma de Mallorca’s centre to the stadium. We can imagine that you don’t want to walk in the heat, so you could also travel by bus. You could hop on bus eight from bus stop 360-Sindicat – Area d’intercanvi Sindicat. Hop off at bus stop 334-Son Moix. This takes around 20 minutes and you have to walk 10 more minutes towards the stadium from the bus stop.
