All football trips to Inter Milan

Football Club Internazionale Milano, simply referred to as Internazionale, Inter Milan or just Inter, is an Italian football club founded in 1908. The club was founded after the schism with the Milan Cricket and Football Club, nowadays known as AC Milan, Internazionales biggest rival. Internazionales home kit is black and blue-striped. The club plays all of their home matches in the well-known Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, also known as San Siro Stadium. The stadium is also home base to neighbour-club AC Milan. It has a capacity of over 80,000. The matches between Internazionale and AC Milan are referred to as Derby della Madonnina, one of the most followed derbies worldwide.

Internazionale is a great club that has won many prices. It’s also the only club in Italy to have never been relegated from the top flight of Italian football. Inter has won 18 League titles, 3 UEFA Champions League titles and 3 UEFA Cups.

With head coach Helenio Herrera, Inter were most successful in the 1960s. Herrera transferred the club into one of the greatest teams in Europe, beating big clubs such as SL Benfica and Real Madrid. This golden era of the 1960s is also referred to as Grande Inter. After this period the club had its ups-and-downs. In the 2005-06 season their bad luck turned again: they were awarded with the League-title due to the match fixing scandal: points were stripped from Juventus and city rival AC Milan.

After this the tables were turned and Inter enjoyed more successes under head coach José Mourinho. In the 2009-10 season they won the Serie A-title as well as the Champions League, after defeating FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the semi-final and final. They also won the Coppa Italia that same season, making it one of 6 clubs in Europe to have ever won a treble. Moreover, Inter won the 2010 Supercoppa Italiana and claimed the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in history.

The following years the club didn’t manage to finish in the top 5 of the Serie A. They have been struggling and have known some poor performances, such as getting the worst groups results in UEFA competitions in the club’s history. Over 8 years they have sacked 11 head coaches. Last season, Luciano Spallletti was also sacked and new head coach Antonio Conte will do anything to get Inter back to the top tier again. To do so, he has reinforced the club with several new players, such as Atlético Madrid-player Diego Godín, Valentino Lozaro, Matteo Politano and Ionut Radu. Moreover, Romelu Lukaku was signed for a club record fee of 80 million euros, leaving Manchester United after 2 years.

Internazionale is not just a great club with a beautiful, big stadium, it’s also located in Milan: a perfect opportunity to extend your football trip into a mini city trip by visiting some of the cities’ beautiful highlights, such as the Santa Maria delle Grazie, Colonne di San Lorenzo and the famous district of Navigli.
