Tottenham Hotspur, simply referred to as The Spurs, were founded in 1882 as Hotspur FC. The club is originated in North London and the club colours are white and blue. A successful period for Tottenham Hotspur was at the beginning of the 1960s, when they achieved the League and FA Cup Double. They have won the League title twice, and they have won 8 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 UEFA Cups, 1 European Cup Winner’s Cup and 7 FA Community Shields.
The Spurs played their home games at the White Hart Lane Stadium for 118 years. The last game was played there on 14 May 2017, when they defeated Manchester United with 2-1. After that, White Hart Lane was demolished, making way for the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, that opened in April 2019. In the meantime, they played their home games at Wembley. The new stadium has a capacity of over 62,000.
Tottenham has many rivalries within the London area. Their fiercest, long-standing rivalry is with Arsenal. This rivalry began in 1913 and intensified in 1919, when Arsenal was promoted to the First Division instead of Tottenham. Although it has been over 100 years ago, the North London Derby rivalry is still known to be quite intense. Other London rivalries of Tottenham Hotspur are with Chelsea and West Ham United. A football trip to one of these derbies is definitely a trip worth booking.
After several disappointing results at the first half of the 2019/20-season – they didn’t manage to win a single game in the last four Premier League-matches and they were even eliminated from the League Cup in the third round by fourth tier Colchester United – head coach Pochettino got sacked on 19 November 2019. His replacement didn’t take long: Jose Mourinho was announced as a new head coach within a few hours.
