The Celtic Football Club, simply referred to as Celtic, is a Scottish football club founded in 1888. The club plays its home matches at Celtic Park in Glasgow. Celtic fans call the stadium Parkhead or Paradise, because of its location next to the Parkhead cemetery. The stadium has a capacity of 60,982, making it the largest football stadium in Scotland and the fifth-largest football stadium in the UK. Celtic’s famous home kit colours are green and white, same as their logo.
Celtic’s biggest rivals are city-neighbours Rangers FC. The match between the two clubs from Glasgow is also referred to as The Old Firm, one of the most famous derbies in the world. The two clubs are the most popular and successful clubs in Scotland, and the rivalry between them is known to be one of the fiercest rivalries in world football. In 2012, Glasgow Rangers were declared bankrupt and were placed in the 4th tier of the Scottish League. Because of that, the Old Firm wasn’t played for several years. In the 2016-17 season the Rangers were promoted back to the Premiership. Celtic is one of the 4 clubs worldwide that has maintained the highest level for the longest period.
Over the years, Celtic has been a very successful club. They have won the Scottish League title 50 times and the Scottish Cup 39 times. They have won the Scottish Premiership for 8 years in a row now. With head coach Neil Lennon and players such as Scott Brown and Leigh Griffiths, Celtic will once again try to retrieve the league-title.
