Stadio Olimpico’s history

When the stadium opened in 1937, the stadium was called ‘Stadio dei Cipressi’. The stadium was already part of a greater project for the building of a sports complex. Mostly, aspects of stadiums get eliminated while actually building the stadium, but everything that stood in the original plan was realised when building the Stadio Olimpico. The stadium was renovated thoroughly in 1953 and it was renamed to Stadio Dei Contimila until it finally received the name Stadio Olimpico for the Olympic Games in 1960. The last renovations took place in 1990 and 2008 when they reconstructed the stadium and adjusted its style.
