Hamburger SV is a football club from the second-largest city of Germany. The club was founded in 1887 and has been playing football at the highest level of Germany since 1963, when the Bundesliga was founded. Hamburger SV, also simply referred to as HSV, had its most successful period from the mid-1970s until the mid-1980s. In this period they won the European Cup Winner’s Cup (1977), the European Cup (1983), and the DFB-Pokal (1987).
The past several years HSV’s position in the Bundesliga kept dropping further and further and in 2018, for the first time since the merger in 1919, HSV were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga. Now they will do everything they can to fight their way back into the Bundesliga.
HSV plays all their home games at the Volksparkstadion. The stadium, which was renovated in 1998, has a capacity of 57,000, and is one of the biggest stadiums of Germany. Its large capacity reflects the clubs ambition of competing in the Bundesliga yet again.
