How many more reasons do you need to discover the beautiful, romantic city of Paris besides your football trip to PSG? There’s so much to see and do in Paris. Number 1 Football Travel has tried to list the most popular sights for you.

How to reach Paris

You can reach Paris through various ways. One of those is simply by car, depending on where you’re travelling from, of course. Don’t you fancy such a long drive? That’s totally understandable. A cheaper and faster alternative might be the train. You should consult your country’s international train lines for prices and durations. The third option is going by plane. Prices of tickets vary per country and per airline company. You should compare different airline companies to find out which company offers the cheapest tickets.

The Eiffel Tower

If you think about Paris, the Eiffel Tower automatically comes to mind. This is the number 1 sight of Paris and it’s impossible to avoid it, because you can see it from everywhere in Paris. The enormous construction has been standing there since 1887 and it’s 276 metres long. The tower consists out of three floors. Do you want to get a little work-out done during your visit in Paris? Then you should climb the 900 stairs of the Eiffel Tower and you'll be rewarded with a beautiful view over Paris. You can also take the elevator, if you don’t fancy taking the stairs.

Can’t you get enough of the view? There's another building from which you can admire Paris from another perspective: The Montparnasse

The Louvre

Another famous attraction in Paris is the Louvre. It can be said that the Louve is the most famous arts museum of the world. The beautiful glass building itself is a sight for sore eyes, but inside there are no less than 35,000 works of art to admire. It’s recommended to decide which artworks you want to visit before entering the building, as well as ordering tickets online in advance. The chances of you visiting the Louvre because of the Mona Lisa are grand, and you won’t be the only one: you might have to queue for a while before seeing the famous painting. Haven't seen enough art yet? Then you could also visit the Musée d'Orsay.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is located adjacent to one of the busiest traffic squares of Paris; the Charles Gaulle, but you really have to visit it if you want to see the beautiful Arc de Triomphe. 12 avenues conjoin at this square, and it’s the second largest triumph arch worldwide. At first, the Arc de Triomphe would have looked very different: an elephant would be standing underneath the arch. You just can't imagine that now! You’ll find inscriptions on the arch of war victories and names of persons who fought in the wars. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier can be found underneath the arch. This is a monument for all deceased soldiers. You can visit the Arc de Triomphe through an underground pedestrian passage.

The Champs-Élysées

You can enter the Champs-Élysées via the Charles de Gaulle. All fashion lovers take note: this is the most beautiful shopping street in Paris. You can find exclusive boutiques here, as well as famous retail chains. It's the widest avenue of Paris and also the most expensive one: you can hire a hundred square metres for 900,000 euros. The well-known Tours de France always finishes at the Champs-Élysées. So, if you’re lucky and are in Paris during this sports event, you really must attend the spectacular finale!

Notre Dame

This cathedral is known all over the world. Perhaps because of the famous story: The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The cathedral’s got an immense history. The construction of this cathedral lasted 182 years and was finished in 1345. It lasted this long, because they wanted to use the cathedral for religious purposes while the constructions were still ongoing. Many artworks and statues were stolen or destroyed during the French Revolution. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the cathedral until 2024, due to a major fire in 2019.

Catacombes de Paris

Paris is an enormous open-air museum above ground, but think about having a look underground, too. Underneath the centre of Paris are catacombs dating back to the 18th century of Paris. It might be clever to leave the kids at home, because it can be scary to see works of art made of piled-up bones and skulls.. You should also be prepared for long queues at the catacombs, as only 200 visitors are allowed per hour.

Versailles

Versailles is located 17 kilometres from Paris. The magnificent Palace of Versailles can be found here, surrounded by the stunning gardens it is known for. It used to be a small-scale palace for Lodewijk XIII so he was able to hunt in the area, but his successor made sure it expanded into the grand palace we know today. You can visit the palace itself, but don’t forget to wander through the gardens. It took 40 years to erect these gardens in the symmetrical style it has today. Hundreds of statues, fountains and flowerbeds can be found in the gardens. Don't you have time to visit the Palace of Versailles? The Jardin du Luxembourg is a bit similar. This is the largest and most beautiful city park of Paris. The Sacré-Coeur is also a bit similar. This enormous basilisk is a must-see in Paris!

Disneyland

Disneyland Paris naturally belongs in the list of things to do in Paris. Disneyland had two other names before it landed on Disneyland Paris. The amusement park consists of an awful lot of parts, including restaurants, hotels, the park itself and a Disney Village. Disneyland is amazing for children to explore, but it’s equally fun for adults! This big amusement park is located 30 kilometres from Paris and you can easily spend a whole day or even a couple of days here. Disneyland is incredibly large and you are likely to queue for a while. There’s so much to do and see in Paris, so you might want to save Disneyland for another weekend…
