Trip to Paris Saint-Germain - FC Lorient

The popular Ligue 1 has been online for about two weeks now. A great moment for us to look back at an amazing recap from one of our clients from last season!

After months of excitement, the time had finally arrived: our football trip to Paris Saint-Germain was about to begin. We booked our football trip to Paris at Number 1 Football Travel around December, as friends of ours had told us that this travel agency puts together amazing football trips and that they have an excellent service. We already noticed this quite quickly and they helped us fantastically.

My partner and I had wanted to visit Paris for a very long time and wanted to make the most of it, so we decided to turn our trip into a football trip.

Day one in Paris

We walked towards the Eiffel Tower from our hotel. Before we left for Paris, we had already made a planning we would stick to during the weekend. Thus, we already knew we wanted to climb the Eiffel Tower on Saturday, so we joined the back of the queue to buy tickets. The Eiffel Tower was even more beautiful than we had expected and we constantly admired the building while waiting in line. It is possible to buy tickets beforehand, but this is usually way more expensive, and you still have to queue. After one and a half hour, it was finally our turn and we entered the lift that would bring us to the second floor. The view was absolutely breath-taking. After walking around for a while, we joined the short queue to the top. In our opinion, you cannot skip visiting the Eiffel Tower when in Paris. It really is worth the long wait: when you are on top of the Eiffel Tower, you have long forgotten about that queue.

Paris by night

We instantly went looking for a restaurant and sat down at the first restaurant we came across. Someone advised us that we should actually look for restaurants that are two or three streets away from the Eiffel Tower, since those restaurants tend to be cheaper. Our own experience taught us that there were no huge differences in prices, and they are quite similar to those in the UK.

After our dinner at ‘Brasserie de la Tour Eiffel’, we walked around at Palais de Chaillot. This palace faces the Eiffel Tower and the square in front of it is very convivial at night. The square and gardens were full of tourists, street artists and food stalls. We really loved it here and stuck around to admire the luminous and sparkling Eiffel Tower from a little distance. We walked back to the hotel around 11 o’clock because we would be participating in a bike tour the following day, and pay a visit to the Parc des Princes afterwards.

Day two in Paris

After a lovely night of sleep and a simple, but okay breakfast, we walked towards the meeting point where the bike tour would start. Two weeks before our departure, we had booked a bike tour at Baja Bikes. They offered several kinds of tours, but we chose to do the highlight tour. The tour lasted around three hours and we cycled to almost every single sight in Paris. During every stop, our guide would tell us a succulent summary of the construction’s history and shared some fun facts. We especially liked the tour because we were also brought to a couple of sights that weren’t as famous as others in Paris, and that you probably wouldn’t visit by yourself without a guide. Examples are the École Militaire and the Army Museum. We also cycled past the Louvre, the Place de Concorde, the Cathédrale de Saint-Louis-des-Invalides and, of course, the Eiffel Tower.

After bike tour in Paris

We had another four hours to kill before the match would start after the bike tour, so we decided to visit the Notre Dame. This cathedral was destroyed by a great fire in 2019 and it was still under restoration. It wasn’t even possible to reach the front of the cathedral from outside. Posters were placed on fences which showed pictures of the fire and a brief explanation of the process of the restauration. Luckily, the Notre Dame is surrounded by little streets, squares and several other beautiful sights, so we enjoyed our visit, nonetheless. We went to back to the hotel to freshen up before going to Parc des Princes.

Football match Paris Saint-Germain

Two days before the match would take place, Number 1 Football Travel called us to tell us we had gotten an upgrade. We would receive VIP tickets instead of regular ones! We were even more excited because of this, and we were looking forward to the match. We hopped on a bus one and a half hour before the start of the match. It wasn’t necessary for us to queue, due to the VIP tickets. The regular tickets access queue was so long we couldn’t even see the end, so we recommend travelling to the stadium on time!

The VIP gave us access to unlimited food and drinks. We were even allowed to tread a small platform which was so close to the field, we could almost walk on it. This was incredibly cool! We started looking for our seats 30 minutes before the match started and we enjoyed watching the warming up and opening ceremony in which lots of fireworks were set off and loud music was played. Despite PSG receiving a red card in the twentieth minute and ended up losing from FC Lorient – that stood on an eleventh place in the rankings at that moment – the experience was truly amazing. The atmosphere in the stadium was spectacular and we will never forget the VIP experience. We were so happy to have booked our football trip at Number 1 Football Travel because everything was arranged perfectly, and we didn’t encounter any problems.

Boat trip on Seine

After the match, we travelled back to the city's centre to get ourselves some dinner. The Parc des Princes is located in a rather unpleasant neighbourhood so we didn’t want to hang around any longer, even though the disappointed supporters celebrated anyway. We decided to do a boat trip on the Seine after our dinner. The boat trip lasted a little over an hour and brought us to a number of beautiful sights. The boat trip got even more magical because of all the golden lights that were visible at night. A great way to end the day!

Day three in Paris

Unfortunately, our last day of our fantastic football trip had begun. It was the first of May, and this appeared to be a national holiday in France. This meant that all the stores were closed, and we weren't able to shop. The fact that all the stores were closed, didn’t coincide well with our planning because we were planning on going shopping at the Champs-Élysées this day. However, we first visited the Sacre Coeur. We left around 8 A.M. to the basilisk in order to avoid the bustle. The basilisk was open, and access was free so we took our chance and admired the gigantic Sacre Coeur from the outside and inside. When you're in Paris with your lover, you should absolutetely hang a lock somewhere in the city. We found a suitable spot opposite the Sacre Coeur and sealed our love.

Arc de Triomphe

We boarded a metro to the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe. We would have loved to walk around in the Louis Vuitton and Gucci store, but since all the stores were closed, we weren’t able to do this. We made the most out of it by walking in stores that were open. We would like to advise you to take a look at the national holidays in France before booking your trip, so you’ll know in advance whether the stores are opened or closed. We walked towards the gigantic Arc de Triomphe to admire it up close. The monument was closed for visitors, as well, but it was still stunning!

The Louvre

We also explored the grounds surrounding the Louvre. We walked around the large, convivial square and shot another couple of pictures. We walked to Place de Concorde from here, and tasted the most delicious hot chocolate of Paris at ‘Angelina’. The queue in front of the Tea Room was huge and it got only smaller as people decided to leave the queue and not because spots opened up in the Tea Room. The queue in front of the store was a lot shorter, and you could buy hot chocolate to go here, so that’s what we did. The end of the day was approaching and after a last dinner in Paris, we left for Paris Gare du Nord again, feeling satisfied.
