Wojska Polskiegostadion

The Wojska Polskiego stadium, also referred to as Polish Army Stadium, is a football stadium in the capital city of Poland, Warschau. The stadium has a capacity of 30,787. It was built in 1922 and is the home base of Legia Warsaw footbal club.

History of Wojska Polskiego Stadium

The football club Legia Warsaw was established in 1920 and they instantly started making plans of building their own stadium. The club suffered financially from the start which is why it took quite a long time to finish the stadium. The ‘stadium’ already hosted football games in 1920 but the club had to sell the stadium to the army in order to raise money so they could finish the constructions of the stadium one day. The army did give permission to Legia to play at the stadium, but they were forced to share the stadium with another club. The other club tried to drive Legia out of the stadium, but their attempt failed and the army made Legia the only tenants of Wojska Polskiego. The stadium finished shortly afterwards and also contained an athletics track, a cycling track and tennis courts.
